Against the Sky
Against the Sky explores the tension between human-made structures and the natural landscape. My project examines how architecture, once a symbol of spiritual connection to the heavens, now dominates skylines, forming barriers between earth and sky. Inspired by this evolving relationship, I crafted a quilted shirt using ice-dyed fabric, reflecting the interplay of buildings and sky through abstract patterns derived from photographs. The shirt is a wearable meditation on architecture’s transformation of nature and our shifting bond with the world above. This project marked my first experience with quilting, adding a new dimension to my sewing practice, even with several years of garment construction behind me. Through this technique, I aimed to merge architectural form with organic texture, embodying the complex relationship between built environments and the natural world.
