Texture: A Haptic Color Experience

Texture: A Haptic Color Experience was about cotton's versatility and natural color. Using all-natural cotton fibers, I developed seven texture swatches, each explaining a color of the rainbow that judges interacted with to feel the colors they represented. By using texture and the cotton's natural color, I could apply sustainable water-saving practices by relaying color as texture.

This project was inspired by Gillian Anderson’s attire at the January 2024 Golden Globes. She wore a striking dress subtly referencing her TV show ‘Sex Education,’ featuring embroidered white vulvas on an ivory backdrop. This captivating design sparked my contemplation of how texture conveys concepts or emotions. This competition provided an ideal platform to delve into these notions, given cotton’s versatility and sustainable attributes for a monochromatic palette. In its natural state, cotton offers a spectrum of hues that could all be interpreted as white.
